Utility Assistance

No one should have to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table. Las Animas Helping Hands provides utility bill assistance to residents of Las Animas and Bent County, ensuring families can stay warm and safe during difficult times. Services are available year-round as there is funding.

We help an average of 15 families each month avoid disconnection by providing financial support for electricity, gas, and heating bills. Over the last two years, we’ve helped 355 families keep their utilities running, providing $61,000 in utility assistance in 2024.

How to Apply for Utility Assistance

We work with Las Animas Municipal Utilities (LAMU) and other energy providers to offer relief to qualifying households. To apply:
